Fundraise for Home-Start
We believe that the best possible start in life for a child begins at home with their family. A nurturing, loving, stable family and home environment strongly determines a child’s future life chances. Children whose parents are struggling to cope can miss out on the love, routine and support that are vital for their future.
Each year we have to turn away parents and children because we don’t have the funds to help them all. When children face severe illness, or disability, when their mother has postnatal depression, when their father loses a job and spirals into debt and mental ill health or alcohol abuse, when they are in shocking housing or their family is threatened with losing their home… our volunteers want to be there for them – to help them and their whole family until they can cope again. We want to reach each child in their vital early years so they can have the best possible start in life.
Very often we are the last chance they have.
Last year we supported 157 families. We are facing increased demand for our services and on average it costs £1200 to support a vulnerable family for a year.
This means we need to raise £180,000 each year to be there for families when times are challenging for them.

Home-Start IOW depends heavily on donations from people like you to fund our work with parents and children. Here are some of the ways your money can help:
£3 – Will buy resources to provide fun and stimulating activities for young children attending a weekly play session
£5 – Provide a healthy snack for children attending a weekly play session
£25 – Supports the average monthly cost of travel for a volunteer to visit a family each week
£132 – Is the cost for a volunteer to be matched with a family. This includes vital training and DBS checks. As many volunteers stay with us for a number of years the training they receive is great value for money
£430 – Provides 4 months support. This is a huge help for a family in crisis to get them back on their feet
£1200 – This provides a family with a full 12 months of support. Some families face challenges that take longer to resolve.
