When I nominated Margaret Rylands for the Home-Start UK Volunteer of the Year award in 2024, we already knew she was extraordinary. But little did we know, we were about to embark on an unforgettable journey. Seeing Margaret crowned as the overall winner was a truly special moment, one that highlighted the incredible impact she has had on so many families over the years.
But Margaret’s journey didn’t stop there! Shortly after her big win, she received yet another incredible honour, a nomination for the prestigious Patron’s Award at the BQF Awards in London! Next week, we’re heading to Wembley Stadium, where she’ll be celebrated in the presence of HRH The Princess Royal.
Margaret has been the heart of Home-Start IOW for almost 25 years. Her unwavering dedication, kindness, and willingness to go above and beyond have transformed the lives of countless families. As one parent beautifully put it:
“She is not a volunteer to us; she is family.”
Beyond her direct work with families, Margaret has played a vital role in shaping Home-Start IOW as a trustee and long-standing chairperson. Her leadership, compassion, and selflessness has left a lasting legacy.
